Cody's Blessing

Today was Cody's blessing. Michael gave him a wonderful blessing. We had all our local family there to witness the occassion. Cody was in a wonderful mood this morning when he woke up. He was full of smiles. He fell asleep in my arms right as church started and stayed asleep during the blessing. After sacrament, we came back to our house for a late lunch. We really enjoyed everyone's company and are so happy for opportunities to get together.

Cody is such a good baby who loves to be held and loved on. He sleeps so peacefully when he is being held or right next to me. I love to see him snuggle and fold his long legs and arms up like he was for so long in my tummy. I cannot wait to see more of his little spirit and personality as time goes on. I cannot believe he is already 4 weeks old!

Hello Old Blog!

I have sat here for 9 months wanting to update my blog, but for one reason or another have not done so. My pictures are on an external hard drive that I don't have hooked up to my laptop. So, my goal is to get this thing updated and figure out how to get my pictures to this computer! I will start with Cody's blessing that happened today. I will then try to put things in order from back at Halloween until now. Wish me luck!

Big Sister Attacks!!

So, we knew this day would come. Katie has been eyeing the baby ever since he entered our home. She has become obsessed with her baby dolls and making sure that they get to do everything Cody does. Everytime I go to put Cody in his swing, we have to first remove a well buckled and swaddled baby doll. Katie also gets worried when Cody cries. She lets us know that he does not want to be doing what we are doing or going where we are going. When he cries, she runs to tell me. So, here is the story. Cody was taking a nap on my bed and Michael said he would watch Katie so I could take a shower. I hope out of the shower to a sreaming baby. I jump out to see what is the matter and I see Katie on my bed burping him. Luckily she was holding him well and was a safe distance from the edge of the bed. I ran to get my camera. She was being so good with him. What you cannot see in the picture is the screaming baby! He wanted to sleep, not be burped. He went right back to sleep as soon as she put him down.

Schlitterbaun Fun

Last summer we decided it would be fun to get season passes to a huge waterpark that is not too far from our house. We went many times late last summer and had planned to spend this summer there as well. My kids are both old enough to enjoy the park. This was all before we found out I was pregnant. I did brave the waterpark a few times early this summer in my very pregnant state. I had to make sure we still got our money's worth out of those passes! Now that Cody is here, we thought we should try to go another time or two before the end of summer. We decided to go late in the afternoon hoping to beat the 108 degree heat of the summer. Luckily we found lots of shade and water to splash in. Keldon loves just about all the water slides, even the ones that are too scary for me. Katie likes to play on the smaller slides and the splash pads. Cody slept half the time we were there. When he woke up, I put his little swimsuit on and we stuck our feet in the water. He did not like it at first, but enjoyed it after a bit. It was a good afternoon and I cannot wait to take the kids again.

Ward Trunk-R-Treat

Our ward Halloween party was the week before Halloween this year. I actually am really glad it was. It keeps things not so busy the weekend of Halloween. The kids wore their homemade costumes. Keldon wanted to be a three musketeer and Katie was a fairy. I am proud of the costumes this year! I was worried they would not be so great. At the party, we ate some great chili, played lots of games and trick or treated. This year Halloween is on a Sunday. We have decided as a family that we will not trick or treat on Sunday. Keldon was a little worried until I told him of all the other things we would be doing. I figure I only have once every seven years to make this decision and be the example for my kids. We don't need more candy anyways. We will be spending the weekend with family. Michael and Keldon are taking a Saturday drive out the Hallettsville to visit Granny and Papa. On Sunday, we are heading out the Dripping Springs to visit with Grandpa, Grandma, Dan and Anna, and the Martins. I will post pictures of that event after it happens! Cubscout Keldon

Keldon is a proud Tiger Cub this year. He loves scouting so far. He got some awards at his first pack meeting. We also attending the annual ScoutJam in Austin. There were so many people. Keldon did as many activities as he could before we all wore out! I am so happy to share these memories with him. This weekend we got to spend the night at the Jumpy Place here in Kyle. Keldon was the envy of all his friends! This program is giving us some good opportunities that we would not otherwise have. I hope he continues on with the program and earns his Eagle Scout. I think it is so important to learn and grow into that honor and award.

Last Days of Summer. . . Almost

Summer lasts so long in Texas. My kids swam a few days ago. It is crazy! I really hope we get to live somewhere with four seasons sometime soon. We are living it up with our outside time though. It is finally not "Dying hot" as Keldon would say, so we spend most of our days outside riding bikes, eating popsicles, playing at the park, taking walks, etc. One thing I did learn this summer is generic popsicles really do stain their skin. Next year we will flip for the good ones. Here are are just a few pictures of my biker babe. She loves riding her scooter and insists on wearing a helmet.

Katie Turns Two

Katie turned two this year. I cannot believe how fast time has gone, yet she seems to have always been a part of our family. She is such a happy girl. She talks all the time. She can even dress herself already. She is also very particular about what she wears. Usually she says to us "Katie pick it, Katie pick it". It is so cute! Of course her favorite outfits are her Elmo pj's and the Princess outfit Grandma and Grandpa gave her for her birthday. She does not care where we are going, either of those outfits should work out, right!?! She can almost sing the ABC's and loves to sing first verses of songs. Today she sang "Row, Row, Row your boat. . . row, row, row your boat" pretty much over and over. She is very independant already and we hear alot during the day "Katie do it. Katie doe it." Okay, for some reason she has to tell us twice before we listen! We love you so much Katie Bug.

Oh, so we were going to have a party at home for her this year. There were only a handful of people that we would invite. It turns out though that Katie won a free party at the Jumpy Place here in Kyle. Also, Dan and Anna moved back just in time to come! We had a great party for her. Hat Day

Katie loves hats. She especially loves this hat Uncle Matt made for Keldon when he was a baby. She wears it around on really hot days (like 100 degrees) and is so happy! I don't have the heart to tell her it is a winter hat and it just is not going to be winter anytime soon.

Pioneer Day 2010 at Texas Old Town

We love celebrating Pioneer Day here in Texas. We all go out to this wonderful replica of an old town and celebrate with many long time friends that we don't get to see often. The kids always enjoy the horse rides and all you can eat cotton candy, snow cones, bbq and dancing. Keldon was such a little gentleman this year. He found a new friend on the dance floor and had some pretty great dance moves for a 6 year old. I was so proud!

Katie still loves wearing boots. Since we are in Texas, she had to get her first pair of cowgirl boots! I bought them 2 sizes too big to ensure she will get to enjoy them for awhile. I absolutely loved these. I wish they had them in my size.

Keldon's Kindergarten Field Day

Keldon had a very exciting field day this year. His kindergarten class got to participate in many outside, water games. He had so much fun. I am so glad I got to be there to snap a few pictures and watch him having fun with his classmates. I cannot believe kindergarten is almost over. I feel like it went by so quickly. I spent most of the year watching two little boys. It prevented me from being able to help out or spend much time at Keldon's school (a 3, almost 2 and almost 1 year old are just hard to handle in a school setting). I love that he had such a great year though. His teacher, Mrs. Delarosa, was amazing. She really connected with Keldon and that really helped him have a great year.

Just some random pictures of our water play this past summer.

Well, only one random summer fun picture! Sorry. Since this is a short post let me tell you about my lack of posting this summer. First my big camera stopped working. Luckily it was still under warranty. We took it in and it took about two weeks to fix. During this time, I busted out my small camera. It also decided to stop working. Well, with no camera it was hard to get pictures. I soon got my camera back from the shop (with all the custom settings messed up) and my computer decided to not turn on one day. Long story not too much longer, I now have a camera and a laptop that has an adaptor for my larger than normal memory card. I am playing catch up from Easter. . . more to come like right now!

Both my kids are (thankfully) such good sleepers. At night, Katie puts that finger in her mouth and snuggles down for sleep. It is a blessing for our family seeing how mommy needs 8 hours of sleep to function.

So, Katie decided that boots were just the neates thing last spring and into summer. She just could not give up her new love. Several times she would bring them to me and insist that i put them on her. She did not care that knee high boots really are not the in thing. I finally snapped a few pictures one day so I can remember my baby in her tall boots and shorts.

Here is a post specifically requested by Anna. So, I finally had money and time to go and get my hair done. I found a picture online and mentioned I like the color to my new stylist and she said "Let's do it!". I am SO happy with my hair now. Hopefully I will still love it when I have to fix it myself.

Katie's First Haircut

Katie got her first haircut tonight. We really did not want to cut it, but the poor baby walks around with her hair in her face half the day because she just will not leave clips or piggytails in. I just had them cut a few bangs to keep it out of her eyes. I threatened the lady anytime she tried to go near the back with scissors. While the cut is not what I wanted exactly, functionally it will be great for Katie. She will be able to see her whole world, not just slits of it!

We took a trip up to the Biscuit Brother's farm for their annual family day. We walked around the farm and heard several really good bands, including The Biscuit Brothers! Keldon really liked it. It was so awesome to see his love of music. He looked so handsome in his hat.

We enjoyed a weekend trip to Halletsville this year. It was a beautiful drive out there. The kids enjoyed dying eggs and seeing the farm again. We also went fishing. We all caught fish, except Katie who was unsure of the whole thing. Keldon loved having his own pole with an acutal hook on it this time. I got brave and wormed my own hook once or twice. We celebrated Easter this year with egg hunts, Easter Bunny sightings, grandparents, fishing and, of course, remembering our Savior. I am so thankful for knowledge we have of our Savior. Keldon really started to understand a small part of what the resurrection is and means for him. He asked lots of questions about what happens to our bodies and how we are going to look when our spirits get to be joined with our bodies again. I love this little boy that strengthens me and my testimony.

It has been different for us this year with Keldon in school. I spend my days doing the same things I did when he was home, just without him. Sometimes I am sad and miss him. I still enjoy the time and memories I am making with Katie though. We love to visit local parks. There are so many around us. This particular day, March 31st, we meet our playgroup there and made binoculars and went on a nature hunt. The wildflowers were just begining to bloom. I had a few extra kids with me that day; three extra to be exact. It generally works out that Katie has a playmate during the day.

We took a trip to the San Antonio Zoo on March 27, 2010 as a family. It was a wonderful day. The kids loved the animals and splashing on the riverbank. The weather was perfect and we could not wait to do it again! The next few postings are tidbits from that day. First, we went and visited the butterfly garden. Keldon loved catching the butterflies and Katie was facinated with seeing them land on us. It was rather warm in the butterfly house, so we could not stay too long.

February was such a busy month for us. We celebrated Keldon's birthday, Granny's birthday and my birthday. It seemed to never stop! Luckily March has slowed down so I can get these posted! Keldon is still likes school. He is reading really well now. He has learned to clean his room and become more independent. Katie is talking so much now. Her word list now includes: mommy (momeeee), daddy (daddeee), cookie, pretzel, bubbles, bath, baby, pizza (peezee), outside, doggie, back, yea, shoes, coat and I will need to keep thinking of the rest. She loves to throw things in the trash. The other day I found her tossing a whole pile of clean socks in the garbage can. We have had to start checking it before we empty it. She also loves putting her dirty clothes back in her dresser. She knows that is where they belong. She just does not understand the whole cleaning process! She loves being outside. We go to the park all the time. She loves doing the big slides now. She has also learned to go down on her bottom instead of her tummy. She wants to do everything big brother Keldon does and hates it when I have to stop her from things she is just too small for still. She is such a girly girl. She loves her hair "pretties" and loves carrying around a purse. She also has a shoe obsession. We try on many pairs throughout the day. She makes me smile all day long. Her newest love is saying prayers. She folds her arms now when she thinks it is appropriate to say a prayer. I love it! She tries to say amen, but does not quite have it yet. I love my children. I am so thankful they are a part of our family. I hope I can do my best everyday to teach them and help them grow into their full potential.

Keldon's 6th Birthday

For Keldon's sixth birthday this year we took him and a couple of his friends up to a bouncy place in Austin. The boys dressed as Star Wars characters and bounced the night away! Keldon loved being able to play with a few close friends. On Saturday night (the day before his birthday) he told me "I am going to hide from the day that way I will always be five and not have to turn six". Sometimes he is worried that he is growing up and not a baby anymore. Other times he is so concerned about when he will be all grown up. I hope the time moves slowly. I hope I get to remember the moments we spend together. An interview with Keldon: A few things Keldon enjoys doing right now: riding his bike and scooter, reading, playing games, petting his doggie, playing in his room and watching tv. When he grows up, he wants to be a ambulance driver. The best part of being five was snuggling with mommy! His favorite thing is Star Wars.

Our month of January seemed to fly by! Since we were gone over the holidays, we celebrated here in January. Keldon learned how to ride his bike with no training wheels. I was so suprised how quickly he got it. We went out to the park by our house and he rode up and down the paved trail. I tried to get a picture of him from the front, but he was too fast! Michael was out of town so I was still helping him take off. Katie loved watching her brother! Katie got to meet her cow. She has not picked out a proper name yet, just "mmmm" (for moo).

Our Trip to Utah Christmas 2009

So, the next several postings are about our trip to Utah. We were so blessed to be able to visit family there this year. We drove the trip there and back only stopping for gas. The kids did awesome! We felt a little crazy after 28 hours in the car, but the break in between helped. I have determined that next time we will either have to fly or move there. Driving was one of those things I can now check off my list - road trip with the fam -CHECK. While we very much missed the traditional Christmas here in Texas, it was a trip we needed. We had experiences and blessings that we needed to increase our faith. If I could only share with you all the times we saw the work of the Lord on our trip, I know it would touch you as well. I however cannot, my posting would go on and on. Our family was blessed with safety, love and time together. I know my Heavenly Father lives. I know that he loves me and my family. He knows our needs and blesses us. While this trip was just a small part of our journey in life, I hope it leaves a lasting impression on my children about the miracles of our times. I hope Keldon remembers his trip to Temple Square. I was so proud to watch him express his knowledge of the gospel and of our Heavenly Father. Please enjoy reliving our time in Utah!

One of my last adventures on our trip was to experience snowshoeing. After Michael's enjoyment of his trip, I felt I needed to experience it as well. Thankfully we found a wonderful aunt to watch the kids for us (I still owe you Lori) and headed up to Big Cottonwood Canyon one last time. Michael, Matt, Adam and I were excited about all the fresh snow (it kept on coming down the whole trek!). It was a great workout! We also saw a total of 8 moose as we went up towards the lake. We had a goal of making it to a lake that was not too far up the mountain, but it started to get too dark and we had to turn around. We still had fun though! Matt and Adam were good sports about slowing their pace so Michael and I could keep up! The air up there was brutal! The cold and altitude got to me on our way back down. I could not stop coughing. We had fun though and Michael and I left wishing we could enjoy this sport in Texas. Oh well. They probably don't even sell snowshoes here!

There was a day that Katie really needed a nap and Keldon really needed some one on one time with me. So we ventured out and found a cute little aquarium to visit, just Keldon and me. Keldon absolutely loved it! We saw all kinds of aquatic creatures. There was a really giant octopus (that we could not take a picture of) that moved all around while we watched. We got to go on a scavenger hunt and learned lots of facts about polar animals. We also joined in on a story time and a few crafts. Keldon was so excited at each aquarium and would ask me "what does this eat?" "What was this fish called?". I loved it! It was so nice to just be with Keldon and follow him around in an environment that was very exciting and educational to him. He was very hesitant to touch the sting rays though. It took him the whole two hours we were there to muster up the courage. He finally did though and was proud of himself! These are the times I really miss sharing with him now that he is in school all day. We used to have moments like these everyday. Now they are far and few between. I need to find them and take advantage while he still wants to just hang out with mommy.

We got to visit a milk farm while in Utah. We were excited about riding on the tractor and getting to really milk cows. However, when we got there we discovered that everything was closed. The roads on the farm were too icy for the tractor ride. The cows only got milked early in the morning and at 5pm (we were there at noon). So, we made the best of it and fed the ducks and geese. I was skeptical when we were purchasing duck food. Why on earth would there be ducks out in this weather!?! Well, there were many a ducks and geese all huddled around one another at a little frozen pond. They anxiously ate all the food we had. Katie loved seeing and hearing them. There was a fence around the pond, so the kids stood on a bench to throw the food in. Katie really wanted to get in the fence. Both kids looked so cute all bundled up. It was a good photo op. I was really sad about the kids not getting to experience the cow milking though! I thought that would have been very educational for Keldon. Oh well, maybe next time.

Matt and I decided to take the kids to the park one afternoon. We grabbed the sleds and the dog and took the short walk. Katie got to ride on the sled the whole way. I found it is quite difficult to carry her and the sled and camera and the extra snow gear. . . Keldon loved the little sledding hills and snowball fights with the dog. Katie was very upset that we would even think of making her walk in that fluffy white stuff! She sat down and cried until I would carry her. She was not too happy about the whole thing until she saw the swings. She loved it! I was very shocked that she and the snowboots and bubble suit actually fit in the baby swing. She also enjoyed riding on the bouncy duck and going down the slide. It was fun and nice to spend some time with my brother.

One of my goals this Christmas season was to focus on family and the birth of the savior. We tried to minimize the gift aspect. Keldon and I read the about the birth of the Savior. We talked about giving gifts of love rather than material items. While on our trip, we took an evening and walked around Temple Sqaure. We toured the Beehive House and ate rolls at the Lion House. Keldon was so excited to walk around the visitor centers. He asked questions and proudly told us things he knew. We got to see the Christus statue and the beautiful nativity scenes. The night ended too soon. The kids got tired and it was cold outside. We were leaving as the lights were coming on. I love that we got to spend that time together though. I hope Keldon remembers this experience. I hope this experience will strengthen his testimony and reaffirm to him the things we are teaching him. I hope every year we can find a stonger presence of the Savior and teach that to our children.

We had several opportunities to play in the snow. The biggest was when we took the kids up into the mountains to sled. The guys (Dan, Matt and Michael) took off on a snowshoeing adventure up to Donut Falls. Anna and I braved it with five kids on a good sledding hill. I thought Keldon would be hesitant since the hill we were on was rather large. He never even paused! He is so brave. He ran up and sledded down for about two hours. Katie figured out that the white stuff we were walking on tasted good! She frequently bent down to lick the snow. Her and I braved the slopes a few times. She LOVED it as well. She cried when it looked like we were not going back up. I had to carry her and the sled each time. So, that quickly got difficult. Michael loved snowshoeing and said he would definately do it again. I will have to post some pictures of that when I get them from my brother (hint, hint). He had a great day and stopped for the best hot chocolate on our way down the mountain.

My Church Talk

A few months ago, I realized I had been a victim of identity theft. This has become a huge problem in our time. Now I should clarify. My bank accounts were not affected. Neither was my house, car, phone etc. This was somewhat more of a spiritual identity theft rather than a physical, material one. And I did identify the person to blame, it was myself. I had let worldly persuits become more important than spiritual ones. I found myself so busy that I was no longer doing the simple things that bring the most spiritual growth. I was robbing myself of who I should have been becoming. In life we are given the gift of being able to get back on track.

I was asked to base my talk off of a conference talk titled “Be Your Best Self” by President Monson. This talk was given during the priesthood session of general conference last spring. While his remarks were aimed at the priesthood audience, I think it is applicable to us all.

President Monson opened the talk by stating, “Each must strive to learn his (or her) duty and then to do it to the best of his (or her) ability.” We first must seek out our duty and purpose in this life. This is by no means a small task. There has been great general direction offered to us from our prophets. However, each of us has a task and purpose in this life and we must seek it out. Patriarticle Blessings are also a great tool to use in that search. Once we have determined our purpose and duty, we must then do our best.

President Monson gives us three suggestions that will help lead us to safety and keep us on the right path. They are: 1. Study diligently 2. Pray fervently 3. Live Righteously.

Three simple steps. Three things that should be daily habits in all of our lives.

The first, study diligently. President Monson made this promise “I promise you that if you will study the scriptures diligently, your power to avoid temptation and to receive direction of the Holy Ghost in all you do will be increased.” He emphasized the importance of DAILY scripture study. He advised that crash courses are not nearly as effective as the day-to-day reading and application of the scriptures in our lives.”

As I have prepared for this talk over the past several weeks. I have searched the scriptures and prayed that I would be able to share with you what Heavenly Father would like for me to. I found a scripture that has left an impression on my mind. I have trouble remembering things, but I have not forgotten this scripture reference since I read it. It is found in 3 Nephi chp 18 vs 15:

15 Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and apray always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye be led away captive by him.

Prayer Fervently, pray always.
This has become so important to me. Heavenly Father promises us that if we seek and ask of him, he will answer. Adam Prayed Jesus prayed. President Monson said “He who notes the fall of a sparrow surely hears the pleadings of our hearts.” Most of my life I have not prayed first. I have not counseled with my Heavenly Father when making decisions. Heavenly Father has given me the opportunity several times in my life to change that. I am not saying that my choices in life were bad. I worked long hours on my “career path” when I had Keldon. I was half way through my degree and worked a lot. Heavenly Father gave me the precious gift of my son and gave me the opportunity to change my life plan. Towards the end of that career, I felt like I was swimming up stream. No matter what I did, I could not find happiness. I somehow had gotten on the wrong path. The money was not worth the time I had to spend away from my tiny newborn. With faith I moved on and knew Heavenly Father would help me find what I and my family needed. I found it. I have worked as a nanny for many years. I have been a “mother” to a foster child who did not have one. I have watched children whose parents love them, but have demanding careers and thus no time for their children. I have done my best to give what I could. I then decided to go back to school. Again, a worthy endeavor. However, it never came easy. I again felt like I was swimming up stream. I again was off track. My loving Heavenly Father knew I needed that gentle nudge to get me back on track to what my duty is in life. This time I have listened. I have learned to recognize these trials as gifts. My testimony has grown so much. I am able to seek those answers I need. I am able to be an example to my family. I am able to serve. I am able to be a mother to my children. Those things did not come first when I was taking 18 hours a semester at school. This time I am striving daily to hold to the rod. To make good decisions, that my Heavenly Father wants me to make. I pray that I stay on track this time. I pray that I will be able to find my purpose and do my best.

I take things one day at a time. When I set my goals for the day, I make sure I have time for my scripture studying. I carry a prayer in my heart throughout the day. I kneel when I need patience. I kneel when I have something troubling me. I kneel when I know others are in need. On Monday, I don’t think about Tuesday or Friday. I think about when I am going to do my scripture studying that day. I make that decision everyday. This helps keep me on track.

Think about this as you make choices everyday. I liken the idea of one degree deflection to choices we make daily. To understand this idea, visualize standing beside an archer who is in the act of drawing back his bow, arrow notched to the string. At the very instant he releases the arrow, we are going to blow a very small puff of air at it from the side. The puff is so small, the archer will not feel it on his hands or face. The effort required to release the air toward the arrow is so slight that a bystander is not apt to notice it happening. But it is enough to change the course of the arrow ever so slightly.
If the archer is able to send the arrow a thousand feet into the distance, and we have managed to deflect the arrow by even one degree, it will land many feet wide of the archer’s intended target, and toward the direction we are trying to encourage.

This also happens when we make choices. One tiny choice, although a worthy one, can send us off course again. We need to remember to Live Righteously.

A couple of suggestions that have helped me refocus on scripture studying and prayer throughout my day. Have you ever been outside during a sunrise? Now I don’t mean in your car driving to work. I don’t mean rushing kids out the door to the bus stop. I mean just sitting outside when the sun is coming up. There is something very spiritual about it. I encourage you to try it. No matter where you live. I live in a neighborhood with neighbors a stone throw away and the magic is still there. I just sit and listen. It does not take long. The quiet moments slip by quickly. But it strengthens me every time. I sometimes take my scriptures with me and take that opportunity to study.

I believe that scripture study and prayer go hand in hand. As I search the scriptures, I pray that Heavenly Father will direct me to those answers that I need to find and receive.

I try to keep a prayer in my heart throughout the day. I try to keep that connection open. It helps me to stay focused and to know I am heading in the right direction.

President Monson said “The pathway can at times be difficult. Chart your course, be cautious, and determine to study diligently, pray fervently and live righteously. Let us never despair, for the work in which we are engaged is the work of the Lord.”

Now for the disclaimer. The personal examples used in my talk were about me and my duty in life. Not sure what your duty is? Do you feel like you are swimming upstream? Ever wonder if you are on your path doing the best you can? The only way to know is to ask your Father in Heaven.

Summer Fun

We have had few opportunities for fun this summer. I have been in school pretty much everyday since the first of June. It was a hard summer for me. I feel I missed so much. Summer Garden

So, we had a beautiful summer garden the month of June. We had yellow and green squash, corn, sunflowers, jalepeno peppers, and tomatoes. Then July hit and the ants ate the corn and the sun killed everything else! So, no more summer gardening for us here in Texas.

Keldon's Preschool Graduation

Keldon graduated from Preschool on June 21, 2009. They had a graduation cerimony and lunch reception afterwards. It was so cute! Everyone got to walk across the stage and received a bible and certificate. Keldon was so proud of his new bible. I took a few pictures of the performance, but it was too far for my flash.

So, this was Katie's first bluebonnet experience. She did wonderful at first. Then she got a little too curious!

Katie got her first TWO front teeth in yesterday! They finally broke through the skin and are peeking out now. We were so excited. She has been drooling like crazy now for about a month. I am so glad she waited this long to get her first two. Keldon had his first two at three months.

Update on Us

So, you will find several postings below to update our family over the past two months. They are slightly out of order; sorry for that. My goal for the new year is to stay in touch and WRITE IT DOWN! I will be diligantly keeping a better journal. For now, here is an update.

Katie is now four months old and loves to "talk" to us. (She especially loves her daddy!) She smiles all the time and is very easy going. She loves to be held still, but also loves to roll around on the floor. She is very intrigued by her big brother and watches him all the time. I put her on the bathroom scale yesterday just out of curiosity. She weighs 16lbs according to it. I am not sure if that is all accurate, but I would believe it! She has gotten to be so chunky! I love it!! I cannot wait to hear what she has to tell us.

Keldon is doing very well. He also talks nonstop. He loves to talk on the phone. It is great how many random things that boy can come up with in a matter of 10 minutes or so. It is great! He is still very active and loves being outside. Luckily we are in Texas were it was in the high 60's today! He is going to start preschool two days a week in January. I think he will really enjoy being with other kids on a consistent basis. I cannot believe he is already going to be 5. I have just been in denial that he is going to kindergarten in August. I am not sure that I am ready to part with him. I love knowing what he is doing all day. I am sad just thinking about how much I will miss him during the day! He is my greatest joy and my greatest challenge at the same time. He has such a strong spirit about him. I am working hard to steer it towards good. I know he will do great things in his life.

Michael works from home now full time. He is enjoying being here. I do, most days. Sometimes though, I just want him to get dressed and leave for work. It would help us be on a better schedule! Oh well. I get to have more mommy time during the day. I am very thankful for that.

As for me, I love being a mommy. I love having the opportunity right now to just be raising my children. I could not have it any other way. I will be starting back to school next month. I am just taking a few night classes. I am thinking that I will go back to school fulltime in the fall, but I don't know yet. I do not want to miss Katie growing up. I want to be the mom that is there and helping out in the classroom. I want Keldon to come home and have me here so I can catchup on all the things I missed while he was away. (sorry, slightly teary right now!) Okay, sorry, I think I am still a little out of balance hormonally! I love my family and try everyday to make the best of what we have and the time we share together.

So, we never really decorated Katie's nursery. I feel kindof bad about that. We just have been so busy and I did not know what I wanted to do in her room. It is finally almost done. A friend of mine and I got some wooden letters and decorated them for our kid's rooms. Katie's turned out so cute. (The picture does not do it justice) I think we might put these up for sale as well, once our flowers take off (or if we magically find more time in the day!). I will get a picture of her whole room soon. I just hung some pictures on the wall this week and need to hang the shelves.

Cookies for Santa

Keldon insisted that we bring a plate of cookies to Santa. We met him at the YMCA one morning and had breakfast with him. Keldon LOVED it. Everyone thought he was just so thoughtful to bring Santa cookies. I love seeing this side of Keldon, the generous, thoughtful side. It is great to know that he will be a well rounded person. I thinking of these moments with we are having the extreme opposite!

Christmas Traditions

So, we are always trying to incorporate new and old traditions into our celebration at Christmas time. This year we decided Keldon was old enough to put baby Jesus in the manger of our nativity. He really enoyed it. He also enjoyed hearing the story over and over. I was very proud of his understand of the true meaning of Christmas.

Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving at the Martin's (Anna's parents) home. It was very nice. There was lots of great food and the kids had fun playing as always. The girls also got to sneak off to a movie (Twilight of course!)without any kids (including babies). Thanks so much to our guys for giving us those two hours off. It was so great, I only took one picture! Sorry guys.

Keldon's Food Drive

In November, Keldon went around our neighborhood collecting food for the food bank. He pulled his red wagon and looked oh so cute. He really enjoyed doing it and sincerely wanted to get food for "the little boys and girls that don't have any" (as he told each person he met). A couple of friends helped as well. We collected 60lbs in two evenings. The people at the food bank were so impressed with the kids. Here are a few pictures from there.

Brenham Trip

We took a little trip to Brenham, Texas to visit Michael's family for Thanksgiving. We had a lot of fun seeing everyone. We also got to tour the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory. Keldon really loved that!

Keldon's New Toy

Grandpa Richard decided to surprise the grandkids and bought a go cart for them. Keldon loves driving it. He especially loved giving rides to Natalie and Nathan (who were not so sure about driving yet). He is such a natural driver. I am impressed now, but worry about what this means in the future! I guess I should start saving now for his first car! He really did a great job with very little instruction. He is a natural!

Scooby Doo

Keldon loves Scooby Doo. We got to go to a Scooby Doo carnival in Dripping Springs near my parent's house. Keldon loved it. It took him a couple of minutes to warm up to Shaggy, but once he did there was not stopping him. He asked me everyday for about a week when we were going to see them. He said we needed to take snacks for them, because they always eat. He also wanted to make sure he had seen all their shows so he could tell them. He loved it! The money from the carnival helped a group that raises dogs to help the handicap.

Katie's Hospital Visit

It has just been a crazy couple of weeks. So, I am going back a few weeks here. Katie decided to stop eating a few weeks ago and ended up in the hospital. They ran several tests on her and never could determine what the cause was. They said it could have just been a virus or one of those unknown things. Either way, it was scary for me. She did so well though. She never stopped smiling at me, no matter how many times they poked her or how many tests they ran. It comforted me that she knew I was there. She still seemed to feel safe with me. She would not let me put her down. She is such a strong, happy little girl. I know she will bring much happiness to many people in her lifetime. Thank you to all who helped us during that horrible week. I do not know what I would do without my friends and family here.

I know it is actually Friday, but my Thursday has not ended yet. This morning we went to the Children's Museum in Austin. Keldon loved it so much! We will have to take him back soon. He was so in love with the new big train table that we did not get to check out much else. Katie slept the whole time, which was great for me. Katie is already six weeks old. I cannot believe it. The first three weeks just seemed to go by so slow. Now these past three have just flown on by. I cannot believe how much she has changed and how much she is growing. I am so happy to finally have a girl to sew for. My mom made this dress for her last night. (I will be making the next one!) It was so fun at the fabric store to realize that I actually have a use for all those cute fabrics. I did limit myself to one fabric purchase/project at a time!

My sister sent Katie a new dress. It is so pretty and she finally has something to wear those red shoes with! Thanks Auntie Karin. WE love it. (She was not so sure she loved the hat, so pictures of that to come.) Katie usually wakes up pretty happy. She eats a little then tries really hard to talk and smile. I just know anyday now she is going to get it and give us a great big smile. For now, I am happy with the half smiles!

Keldon's First Soccer Game

Dinoland at Zilker Park

We went to Dinoland yesterday at Zilker Park in Austin. With such a mild weather week, we had to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Keldon really enjoyed seeing the dinos. Luckily my friend and her boys were with us, otherwise we would have never made it through the park. I pretty much just followed the group around trying to keep Katie happy. She decided she was WAY hungry and needed to eat. There was no where to really stop and feed her. I finally learned how to feed her in my sling. WOW it was an accomplishment for me! Love the sling!

So, Katie loves to be carried around all the time (yes, even at night). She prefers to be snuggled up with Michael or I rather than be put down anywhere. So, we have deemed the sling the best purchase we have thus far made. I can get lots more done with her snuggled in it than I would if I were just carrying her. I have tried several different carrying positions. She does not seem to mind. Michael thought it was funny that her arm was out this time.

A Brother's Love

Keldon has welcomed his little sister with such love. He always wants to know where she is and what she is doing (usually sleeping!). He loves to give her kisses and calls her his sweetheart.
